Home at Last

Well, Rob and I are finally home together with Kailyn. We have been so busy since last Wednesday. Chaffey homes remodeled our place but due to the 4 days with no power, we were not quite finished when Rob arrived. We spent all day and all night Monday and Tuesday trying to get it ready for him to come home. I know I should not have had such high hopes about what I wanted to accomplish when he arrived because the day he got there, the painter was there and all of the furniture had been moved to the middle of the room. There was only one hallway that Rob could take his wheelchair. Since then, we have almost finished the place. I still have to put together and organize a few things, but we are about 80% there. We celebrated Christmas Eve at Rob's parents with a big group of people and had a blast. Rob felt good but was really tired when we got home. We then went to my parents on Christmas day. He did good there, but that night we both caught Kailyn's bad cold and have been trying to recover since.

Rob is coping well and adjusting to life at home. We still dont have his permanent wheelchair yet so we are making it work with what we have now. We hope that the rest of his home equipment will arrive soon so he will become more independent and continue to make progress in his recovery. We never realized how hard it was going to be to come home. There is so much that you dont think about from reaching into the cabinets and fridge, to wheeling around doors in the bathrooms. I keep telling him that it will take time to get used to all the different obstacles at home, but he thinks that he should do everything perfectly the first time. You know Rob!!

I would like to thank you for continuing to read the blog. Rob has read it now and is also reading emails so feel free to send him an encouraging message. I will try to update you at least weekly on our progress. I will be busy soon as I plan on going back to work and Rob also starts his outpatient therapies 2-3 times per week so I will need to drive him to Harborview. We hope to have a get together at the beginning of the year so that those of you that have been waiting to see and talk to Rob will get a chance to do that.

Love,

Heather
